One of the primary goals of the SFV Jaycees is to develop its members through both direct training and personal experience. This development is accomplished through a variety of programs aimed to meet the various needs of the membership.
DIRECT TRAINING
First, members are encouraged to actively participate in events and projects--each one offering development opportunities. Members can learn about project planning and implementation, teamwork and collaboration, running effective meetings and following parliamentary procedures, delegation, motivation, effective networking, fundraising, relationship building and so much more.
In addition to offering these hands-on, project-oriented, skill-building opportunities, the SFV Jaycees offers training seminars to its members. These seminars deliver practical information (in a classroom-type-setting) on both personal and professional topics. Some of these seminars have included:
-
Effective Public Speaking
-
Fundraising and Business Development
-
How To Buy Your First Home
-
Elevator Pitches and First Impressions
-
How to Write an Effective Press Release
-

-

-

-

-

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
The SFV Jaycees also expose their members to development opportunities that take place in a social setting, fostering the idea that learning is fun. Some of these personal development opportunities have included:
-

-

Ultimately, the SFV Jaycees will grow to fill future leadership roles in their professions and in the community. They are encouraged to take advantage of all of these development opportunities available to them as members; to build a myriad of skills which will be applicable in these future roles.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (CLDP)
As the Valley’s premier leadership development organization, the San Fernando Valley Jaycees were turned to by established community leaders to develop an extensive course in the fundamentals of community leadership that will be applicable in both a for profit and non-profit capacity.
The SFV Jaycees Community Leadership Development Program (CLDP) was designed to provide members of the Jaycees and the community at large an opportunity to gain the fundamental knowledge and resources to become effective community leaders.
The CLDP couples an interactive curriculum taught by established and emerging leaders with real world non-profit board experience to provide the basic tools and exposure participants need to help them serve
effectively in leadership roles in our community.
The course content includes these fundamental topics: leadership best practices, small group communications, laws and ethics, marketing and promotion, financial decision making, planning and development, and fundraising.
Through this program, participants will also discover where their community interests and passions lie and will learn about opportunities for future board involvement with related nonprofit organizations in the San Fernando Valley.
